And a child to believe society is not exhausted by endless overuse/abuse of character assassinations.

At this point puff daddy and r Kelly could team up and take on all of a high whole schools prom dates (boys and girls) and ppl would ignore it.

Don’t believe me? Then explain why Cosby is free and on the streets, and Clinton, and trump, and putin, and worst of alll all…rhiana.

      CHILDREN, not students.

Children attending a girl’s school at the time of the bombing. The iconic photo of the incident was blood-splattered backpacks. I’d say “student” is spot on.

Also kinda flies in the face of the endless White Nationalist propaganda, insisting women in Iran are all prisoners in their own homes and treated as chattel to be sold off for profit by their parents. These girls were slaughtered, in no small part, because the American military feared that they would grow up to join the Iranian professional class. By becoming doctors and teachers and engineers - perhaps even nuclear scientists - they posed the same existential risk to American Hegemony that Cuban doctors and South African teachers and Chinese engineers present.

      It was 168 little kids.

It was 168 future Iranian adults. Future patriots who might continue the project of the 1979 Revolution in defiance of a Global US Hegemony. Future members of the intelligensia who might contribute to the Iranian economy and polity. Future mothers to the next generation of Iranians.

Just like with Palestine, the murder of kids is paramount to the project of ethnically cleansing a nation. Especially if the children are in a position to one day become peers of and competitors to your nation’s own children.

I won’t pretend Iran is the beginning, but I predict that the American embrace of genocidal policy will continue to spread - west and south of Syria and Libya, north and east of Iran - until every member of the Global South is once again put into their place or exterminated.

Biden did nothing in reaction to a Coup attempt and scapegoated Garland. Nobody bats an eye at that, it’s insane. I think the federal court seal on Epstein Files is true to an extent but that wasn’t the only thing they could’ve taken Trump down with. They chose to punish nobody important for Jan 6th, emboldening the new confederates.

Biden also could have said “fuck the seal” and declassified and published them anyways. Even if they were later retracted and deleted from the DOJ website, the internet would share them around.

Of course Joe Biden and the wider DNC didn’t want those documents released, because they would implicate big Democrat donors and create mass-disillusionment. They got released now as a way to spite Trump, and perhaps because whatever disarray they incited would be under Trump’s rule… or perhaps because Democrats correctly determined that the USA wasn’t going to riot or enact a mass-strike or do anything “radical” after learning that their entire life has been played by billionaire sex-trafficking child-raping baby-eating pedophiles </3

But sure, lets pretend the president had absolutely no idea about it because they didn’t publicly release a folder labeled “The Epstien Files” while he was in office.

Lemmy basically exists at this point for idiots to deliberately misunderstand the workings of the government in order to blame the democratic party for illegal shit the republicans do. Every single time republicans do something heinous these chuds come out screaming about why the Dems let this happen and how it’s actually their fault for not stopping the people in absolute power, it’s fucking bananas. 95 percent of lemmy is basically the worst ten percent of reddit, and most prominent commenters seem to use gpt or something else to think their thoughts for them. Lemmy is a fucking joke when it comes to discussing politics and it’s every bit as arbitrarily moderated as reddit.

            for idiots

Amazing way to start your argument

to deliberately misunderstand the workings of the government

No, we understand it very clearly; power and/or money rules, and laws are suggestions for politicians

in order to blame the democratic party for illegal shit the republicans do

Who’s left to enforce what’s legal? If the entire government is compromised, and constantly approving of illegal shit, what use is there in caring about laws and legality of actions? Power rules, laws are mere suggestions to the Epstein-class

Every single time republicans do something heinous these chuds come out screaming about why the Dems let this happen and how it’s actually their fault for not stopping the people in absolute power

They had so many chances to pull exactly the same shit to stop evil and never did in the name of “normality”. They knew that Republicans are neo-nazi fascists and did jack shit to use their temporary power to stop them. If they want to market themselves as the “good guys” and then choose not to stop cartoonish levels of evil how do they expect any remaining support? You’re not blaming the wolf, screaming they’re hungry for chickens, for eating the chickens; you blame the shepherd for not grabbing the shotgun and headshotting the wolves in sight. If Democrats want to claim they’re “not stepping down to the level of illegal actions” while knowing if they don’t then the neo-nazi fascist regime is coming (and now it has already arrived, good job), they’re just as bad. Something something one nazi in a bar = nazi bar

95 percent of lemmy is basically the worst ten percent of reddit, and most prominent commenters seem to use gpt or something else to think their thoughts for them

Lmao we’re entering the era of deflecting arguments by claiming it’s written/thought-conceived by an LLM. I wonder if there’s already a name for that fallacy

Lemmy is a fucking joke when it comes to discussing politics and it’s every bit as arbitrarily moderated as reddit.

There’s not even a central moderation; go to a different instance (and follow different communities) if you’re so upset by the local moderation.

By the way I’m not even from the US, I just find it depressing to follow the situation from here in Europe knowing this is likely what’s waiting for us in 10-20 years. Let’s hope our democracy is better than yours

And then you just straight admit you’re a foreigner that follows our politics for kicks, you’re literally a propagandist and you probably don’t even know it.

I never said I follow your politics for kicks, where did I say that?

                you’re literally a propagandist

I also don’t even talk about this topic myself, unless I see someone like you who seemingly doesn’t understand where the sentinment is coming from. I’d rather spend my time convincing my friends to vote further prog-left in our local/national elections than argue about the Epstein class in the US

But unless you want everything to get worse for everyone everywhere

No, I want you to gain understanding of where the opinion is coming from so you can get your head out of your self-righteous ass and talk to people in good faith instead, instead of thinking they’re all propagandists

                that elects republicans

And the entire point is that it seemingly doesn’t matter, because even with years of full Democrat reign nothing will change, they will not fix the broken “democracy” that the US has, and then the first Republican to take office will immediately illegally undo all those years of progress within a week and plunge straight into a fascist state, and continue their gerrymandering and court-stacking unbothered and unopposed. Why the fuck didn’t Biden stack the court? Why didn’t the years of Democrat trifecta stop gerrymandering and make vote-by-ballot easy and unopposable? It’s hilarious how those simple tasks haven’t happened, which is unthinkable as a European (specifically, Dutch)

Or just admit that’s what you’re doing here.

You know jack shit about me, so stop jumping to conclusions

I think you guys may be talking about different problems. Oil being expensive is good in the environmental sense, as it tends to push people and businesses away from using it. The wage gap and cost of living issues are affected by oil prices, but are a separate issue.

Sadly it’s not that simple. Fixing the various pop-up symptoms of late stage crapitalism is like seeing an apartment block with a completely corroded water supply system and going around slapping flextape on leaks instead of rooting out the whole thing and replacing it with something that works. We keep going around applying hotfixes, hoping this will make the system work, but at the end of the day all we get is 20x more spent on flextape than it would’ve cost to replace the system, and the whole thing is even more rickety than it was before we began.

Except your way doesn’t work either, when each person tacks on their personal issue (or the one that matters most to them) nothing changes.

We have a flat tire, well we also need to change the oil, well we also need a car wash. This doesn’t fix the issue. The big issue is “yes this car has problems” but the immediate one is “fix the tire”.

You’re forgetting that a lot of oil byproducts are absolutely necessary for long term agricultural sustainability. Nitrogen and sulfate fertilisers take natural gas and crude oil processing byproducts to be synthesized, pesticides rely on petroleum, and that’s not even considering the machinery required for production and transport (while electric trucks are a thing, electric agricultural machinery is still experimental at best, not to mention a lot of farmers tend to use 20-40 year old equipment).

Oil prices going up will have a massive knock on effect on agricultural produce amounts, availability, and prices. But hey, at least all those miffed farmers will now have a market, even if it’s making nutrient dense slop which will be the only thing available for average people to buy… You’ll get your daily dose of gray slop and you’ll like it!

Not sure it works that way. Great man theory is not a great model for how history unfolds. The third reich didn’t end because Hitler died, Hitler died because the third reich ended. Saying the US illegally attacked Iran because of Trump has the same depth of analysis as saying the murder of Franz Ferdinand is why WWI happened.

Agreed. This war happened because Iran supplies a large quantity of oil to China, and the oligarchs are fucking terrified of the rise of communism and the implications it has for their way of life. This war and the attack on Venezuela are both part of the encirclement strategy that capitalists are employing in an attempt to choke China’s economy before the west is eclipsed.

They’ve left it too late though, China’s green revolution will soon free them and the global south from the capitalist oil hegemony.

COVID likely would not have become a global pandemic, and president Pence would likely be in the middle of his third presidential term if Republicans in Congress had the moral spine to impeach him in January 2020.

By the way, the US miltary didn’t give one of their stupid names for this war? No operation “Magnificent Freedom” or “Infinite Peace” for this butchery?

No, unfortunately the president of the US tends to go along with the swamp on foreign policy decisions, therefore we would be in the exact same situation regardless of the election.

Here is a link to a Kamala Harris speech on the official Biden white house archives. This was less than a month before the election.

We know Hamas is not the only threat Israel faces. On October 8, Hezbollah began launching rockets at Israel, and the Houthis in Yemen began targeting Israeli cities.

And what is the common thread? Well, we all know: Iran, which has now also directly attacked Israel twice.

I am clear-eyed. Iran is a destabilizing and dangerous force.

When Donald Trump was president, he let Iran off the hook. After Iran and its proxies attacked U.S. bases and American troops, Trump did nothing. And he pulled out of the nuclear deal without any plan, leading to an unconstrained Iranian nuclear program.

On the other hand, our administration struck Iranian proxies in Iraq and Syria when they attacked American troops, and we are the first administration to ever directly defend Israel.

Make no mistake, as president, I will never hesitate to take whatever action is necessary to defend American forces and interests from Iran and Iran-backed terrorists, and I will never allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon.

Diplomacy is my preferred path to that end, but all options are on the table.

She literally called Trump a pussy for not bombing Iran more and pledges to start a war with Iran if necessary for the express goal of defending Israel.

Trump deserves to be called a hypocrite for campaigning on the opposite of this, but really we never had a choice.

Uhhhhh kinda. I did vote for her once but let’s be honest it’s a protest vote more than anything. Much ink has already been spilled about how the system is hostile to third party candidates and why.

I remember the 1980s when the Republicans were accusing their political opponents of being commies or “pinkos” or some secret agents of Russia, but I never dreamed that Red Scare nonsense would get resurrected in the Democratic Party. Pretty funny. You aren’t as different as you think you are.

Um, except Jill Stein has verifiable ties to the Kremlin.

Also, I’m not a fucking Democrat I’m a fucking socialist.

Also, the red scare was in the '50s and '60s, not the '80s.

Stein was investigated as part of the probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election, and she was cleared of any wrongdoing.

Also, I’m not a fucking Democrat I’m a fucking socialist.

Sorry for the assumption. I heard Democratic Party talking points, so I thought you were a Democrat.

Also, the red scare was in the '50s and '60s, not the '80s.

Conservatives were still paranoid about Russian agents in the '80s. That was my point.

I feel I should say something profound and witty about this.

But really I find the course this country is on depressing. Democracy is slipping away and at every turn I keep thinking even the republicans have to admit it’s gone too far, but no, they are okay with it.

I know that historically we have done some really evil things, but I’d thought we were past that.

I keep thinking of a clip I saw of musk saying how empathy was a sickness.

We are a country full of monsters pretending to be human.

The whole point of “Never Forget” was to remind us that we can never be passed that. The Nazis weren’t monsters, they were human beings. Human beings are capable of incredible atrocities, and we need to constantly remind ourselves of that. Make it the foundation of our whole society. But unfortunately the average person in unable to see past their own lifetime, and therefore sees no point in doing anything that could affect real change for future generations.

I keep thinking even the republicans have to admit it’s gone too far, but no, they are okay with it.

That’s because they are fascists. There is no end game with fascism. It’s a mad dash for more and more control until the situation implodes in upon itself.

      Republicans are fascists. By definition.
