Valve is winning because the average gamer doesn’t care much about owning his videogames.

it doesn’t just do nothing,
Valve is a for profit company, one of their main goals is to make money and they work daily to do that. There are people at Valve who work 8h a day on how to boost profits.
People love to shit on valve working on lootboxes, but I was there to see how it developed. It was there as part of a way of getting money back to the people making stuff, which is why a shitload of the TF2 hats came from the community and steam workshop. The system came from a left wing greek economist, before , you know, he BECAME Minister of Finance for greece (for half a year)
I think you are confusing lootboxes with the items market which was there mainly to compensate the free to play model. If you were there i hope you remember too no DRMs and no third party software launchers to run games.
This is why they have steam OS
They have steam OS because microsoft become one of their competitors
Remember that you are on Lemmy: a decentralized and open source platform owned by the community.
Steam is a proprietary, closed source, for profit third party software launcher owned by a billionaire.
Parties who label themself as “left” and “right” always serve the rich class.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Are iranian children worth less than american children?
9·1 month agoI think it’s a legit question, when there’s a tragedy involving kids it’s always a big deal, politicians yells about it and media coverage goes on for weeks. Personally i know there is no difference between children but i’m genuinely puzzled about what is the answer according to government and media logic.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Are iranian children worth less than american children?
19·1 month agoIt’s more about what is not being said: more than 150 iranians kids recently died in a bombing and it was on the news for only two days, no minutes of silence or football teams wearing a badge for the victims, no politicians condemning what happened and sending wishes to the families involved.
Once you have a few million I imagine getting to a billion is a lot easier.
How so?
In any case, idk why you’re so opposed to taxing the hell out of them.
Who said i’m opposed to that? In another comment i argued that taxing billionaires is not the answer to get rid of them because in fact it doesn’t.
That is true but their choices or habits are influenced by the rotten society around them.
Tax alone isn’t the answer. if the richest man in the world were to pay 200 billions a year in taxes they would still be a billionaire and if these 200 billions ends up on building a ballroom for politicians not much is achieved.
A billion is an amount of money so ridiculous that it should simply be illegal to have that much.
A billionaire is 999 times richer than a millionaire, you may end up a millionaire by chance but there’s no way you can magically become a billionaire. Assuming you bought 1000 bitcoins when they were worth a cent you would have sell them at 1 or 10, assuming you win a billion at the lottery you would give some of it away and cease to be a billionaire as a result.
Keep also in mind that these people work hard to secure contracts and royalties, the more investments you have the more work you have to do to manage them.

Steam is part of the garbage, you don’t really need a third party launcher to run a software.
In the past years microsoft made big and aggressive acquisitions in the videogames industry like bethesda and blizzard. The new xbox portable which is a direct competitor to the steam deck doesn’t have cd anymore, the only way to get games is through microsoft store.
