The bacon thing was… really weird.
I mean, I like bacon, but… not like enough to make a lifestyle out of it
I heard it was in part a push from the pork industry. They were struggling to get grocery shoppers to keep buying bacon during the anti-fat fads of the 90s, so they spent millions lobbying fast food places and restaurants to make bacon a premium add-on ‘bacon makes it better’; then the fast food marketing machine slowly brainwashed a generation into bacon obsession.
Ugh. Nothing is even shocking anymore.
I think it was an overblown reaction about masculinity and being against vegetarianism and whatnot. Obviously it became less explicitly about that, but i do think it stems from those feelings originally.
I went full-on bacon eating back in 2012 because who cared. A year later I’m fat and slow. Fuck those Mayans.
JB was bad and most guys hated him but most guys also ran around with the same haircut at the time.
JB copied them.
I miss demotivational posters.
There’s a comm for it. Just not a lot of content
So you remember Strong Bad?
I mostly remember Trogdor to be honest.

Thank you for stopping by.
Did you… is this sickos, but a hedgehog?
This is the OG “haha yes” meme, predating the sickos one by… like… 1-2 years according to knowyourmeme (going not by time of creation but their widespread usage as memes)

Chuck Norris is also dead. He died March 19th of this year.

he became a looney right maga before he died, pretty much good riddance.
I feel like most of them were already there to begin with. I’m not sure about his case but when you dig down into it so many of them claim that they’ve been hiding all their lives.
You know to escape the woke mob that doesn’t like their racism or whatever.
Those Nokias aren’t dead, they were just abandoned by the infrastructure. Pop in a new battery and you’ll be playing snake in no time.
Mine’s still charged.
I kid.
Fixed.
Damn it, you fixed it just before I could lol.
And Chuch Norris’ “political” views were always shit.
He was a MAGA piece of shit
Don’t cower

I feel like Justin Bieber deserves better than this for what he had to go through
I agree, look at the sexual harassment alone. It’s pretty sickening how full grown ass adults were treating him like some sexual object. He was what 14 or 15? So gross
What did he have to go through?
He’s the dude version of Brittney male sexual abuse just looks a little different and isn’t recognized as readily or taken as seriously, which is saying something because abusing young female pop stars is super common and happens constantly and is also not taken super seriously.
Puff daddy
Is Bieber a has been? Didn’t he just headline at Coachella?
It’s fascinating really. He went directly from a wanna-be to a has-been, directly bypassing the state of “being”. Scientific studies have been conducted on the phenomenon, but it is still a mystery as to how this happened.
I don’t know what ‘headline’ or ‘Coachella’ means so that’s a yes. Unless headline as in newspaper and Coachella as in a line of sex toys… which wouldn’t change the answer to the question.
It’s pretty wild you know the brand of sex toys but don’t know the most famous music festival in the world.

I don’t specifically remember lays bags being empty a big joke in 2012, but I wouldn’t be surprised. I do remember the rest of these.
Lays bags having more air than chips is older than the internet.
I’m not saying they didn’t have more air than chips then, I’m saying as a specific Internet meme it felt more like a 2017 thing.
I do remember it, on 9GAG
I haven’t heard someone mention 9GAG in forever. Someone without context today might think it was a porn site.
When epic meal time was the biggest YouTube channel.
Oh my god i completely forgot how much everyone loved epic meal time. Could never to content like that in this economy.
I was younger so it was somewhat enjoyable. Mostly for me it was seeing what crazy monstrosity they were going to make.
Ever wonder why we’re here?
“… Just to suffer?”
One of life’s great mysteries isn’t it? Why are we here?
I mean, if we took their base, then we’d just have two bases in the middle of a box canyon…
Web 2.0.

As a web dev, I feel awkward reminiscing about the thin period of web history when IE was a solidly built, standards-compliant browser.
It was like the IE team saw their history was causing them to lose all market share, and committed to fixing misdeeds since they held an underdog position. But for most, it was too little too late.
For several years, I tested in IE, not Chrome, because it was most strictly standards-compliant, and I could be sure that if it worked there, it would work in other browsers. (Now, if you use Edge, it’s just a repaint of Chrome)
I miss presto and the old opera browser
I loved Opera for a good couple of years. Came back to it around 2007 and I was shocked at what it became.
I rather enjoyed 2002-2003 opera. It had tabs and mouse gestures.
IE11 was good. I will die on this hill with you.
I didn’t start dev until after the chrome hegemony but I assume ie was only compliant because MS was the one writing the standards. Much like how chrome is essentially the defacto standard now.
At this point in time, Chrome was jumping bounds ahead of the others with standards, and most websites were specifically written for webkit, even beginning to disregard Firefox. Worse, Chrome was often going back and forth on how a certain new standard should implement, leading to, for instance, CSS files declaring 7 or 8 different ways of doing a linear-gradient.
Your sentiment on Microsoft isn’t unique, which is part of why the web consortium wasn’t actually keen on listening to them most of the time. Them having monetary/OS influence didn’t actually lead to a lot on the W3C - they went ahead of them for most ActiveX work.
It was really hard to use ie at the time. I worked at lockheed making a javascript repair sim, and it took 3 minutes to load in IE vs 10 secobds in chrome
IE also never woulda pioneered shit like WebUSB
God I forgot about the whole bacon thing.
I remember it as the same time the narwhal bacon’ed. Never got the appeal of that meme.
And unfortunately I’m going to have to remind you how bad it got… https://www.baconaddicts.com/products/bacon-flavored-toothpaste-flavor-tooth-paste
I remember being really annoyed by the whole thing. People went from kale to bacon.
Bacon will forever remain epic, even if it is slowly killing me.
I think it’s a reference to epic meal time
Ohhh, right. Man, I’m a terrible Millennial.
