So don’t go naming any Canadian, Australian, NZ or UK based shows (unless it’s from Quebec)
You’re asking in english for non-english language recommendations ? There’s some sort of contradiction there.
Anyway
“Les Bureau des Legendes”
Nah, I don’t need recommendations personally. I’m just opening up a general thread lol
what were you expecting, esperanto?
Ask the question in the language you’re after an answer in ?
I mean this isn’t a general “I want recommendations” thread but if it was, I didn’t specify any specific country-of-origin (so what language would I use?) moreover plenty of English-based people watch a lot of interrnational shows to begin with.
- Le Bureau
- LEffondrement
- Babylon Berlin
- Dark
- Beforeignors
- Anxious People
- Parlement (goes downhill after S1)
- The Eternaut
I thought Beforeigners simply was too short for the concepts it presented.
It certainly needed at least one more season, but what there was was very good.
Also if you like Babylon Berlin, have you tried or heard of Paris Police 1900 or Balkan Shadows?
Paris Police 1900 is on my watchlist, I had just about heard of Balkan Shadows, but not looked into it. Thanks.
Empathie (link in French)
Minuit le soir (midnight at the evening)
Les invincibles, Serie Noire and c’est comme ça que je t’aime (happily married)
This Turkish show called Hakan: Muhafiz, or The Protector was pretty good. It was about a guy who discovered he has ties to a secret order and has to save the world from an immortal bad guy.
I have also been watching a show called Karppi or Deadwind. It is a police procedural, which I typically avoid. But a friend is watching it, an I am learning Finnish.
From French Canada, there’s La faille (2019) - season 1 was the weakest but season 2 and 3 are top tier From France there’s a lot:
- Panda (2023), it deserved more than 2 seasons but the end of season 2 is epic
- Capitaine Marleau (2014), a top tier main character with good mysteries and comedy
- Alexandra Ehle (2018), another fantastic main character, love me a show about a weird pathologist
- Master Crimes (2023), funny show with elaborate crimes
- César Wagner (2020), fun show with a love triangle that I hope ends in polyamory because all 3 characters are awesome
- Face à Face (2021), each episode being related to a bit of the French law is great and more shows should do that. Fun show with a good bit of family drama
From Finland, Korvessa kulkevi (2023) - the first show in a long time where I didn’t guess the culprit or the why
Bread, Love, and Dreams aka King of Baking, Kim Tak-gu
A totally corny “struggle and progress by honesty and perseverance” show that was fun to watch!
Would “Huge in France” fit this? It’s about Gad Elmaleh moving to America and he has a hard time understanding that he’s not famous there. So lots of culture shock moments, it’s in English but a very international feel
Technically not as it’s a US-based series, but I’m not going to go up and down the thread and litigate given examples lol
