I feel you. I never liked the “ugly cartoon” aestic. Even if I enjoy the characters/plotlines, it distracts me so much and hurts my enjoyment of the media somewhat. Some TV examples include: Ren and Stimpy, the closeups in SpongeBob, Anything by Klasky Csupo (Rugrats, Wild Thornberrys, and especially Aaahh!!! Real Monsters), and the pupils in Rick and Morty.
Something about the art style on these comics drive me up the wall.

Same. It’s the noses and cheek dots. They stick out like a sore thumb.
My brain just auto-identifies these characters as rito people from Zelda, specifically Wind Waker-style.
