  • It works for Nora territory that’s like a quarter of the map. The paint is everywhere including places that are completely forbidden to them, and only a couple of isolated bannished people have left their land.

And the real problem I have with it is not that it’s not explained, it’s that exploration is frankly discouraged in this game. If and only if you know you’re supposed to go somewhere, follow the trail. If there’s no trail, OR if you don’t have a quest here yet, don’t go, you’re losing your time.

  • Mirror’s Edge’s environment itself was mostly white but used bright red highlights to guide the player if I remember correctly. So not yellow but kind of the same.

Horizon Zero Dawn is the one that I know that does the yellow paint thing completely straight and in the most obvious way. If it’s not yellow, don’t bother going that way.

Really it’s something any 3D game design has to face, you don’t want players to be too lost and disoriented. It’s just not fun. Lots of (well-designed) games do that by clever use of lighting and environmental clues. When it’s done right you mostly don’t realize it unless you’re looking for it, but it’s enough that you know the right way.

But if it’s too obvious, it can be a bit jarring.

  • I think I probably had to solve that too since I did finish Clouds of Xeen long ago but I don’t remember that puzzle.

Though I had something kinda similar to that feeling when I learned about Citizen Kane and I got that the witches’ password “rosebud” was probably a random reference to that. At least I think it was?

  • I’d be interested in a list, most of the podcasts I listened to while commuting have ended.

And one of the still running podcasts is “372 pages we’ll never get back”, a funny book club kind of thing with books of dubious quality, and since I read along in between episodes it takes me forever to get to listen to those.

Either French or English-speaking will do.

That screen is almost certainly meant to be Smash bros. The ones that run on analog output consoles are 64, Melee and Brawl, and of these only Brawl has a green “GAME!” message.

So this guy might be playing it on a wii, which does look better on a CRT. Competitive (pre-Smash 4) smash players are also all about CRT because they play in a frame-perfect way and conversion to digital induces a small amount of lag, but they’re usually Melee players.

That said he’s also using controllers that look nothing like wii or GC controllers and are very Sony-shaped, so who knows.

It’s still directly referencing the stupid obsession over testosterone and how the lack of it explains why men are not “male” enough to them. That’s literally what the soy part is.

The word is shit, and so is its implication.

Though I think some instances hide downvotes in UI, so maybe you can only see the total? not sure.
