its kinda funny because I think they did not like them so made this outrageous offer and paramount accepted and they made sure no caveats so they could do all sorts of things that would make paramount want to drop them but they are in too deep.
well that’s the thing. It’s a catch 22. All the stuff that would make paramount want to drop them? People will get subscriptions to stream it just to see the episodes. So Paramount then wants to keep them from a money standpoint.
Most people refer to “fuck you money” as enough money to be able to say “fuck you” to anyone. They’re a little bit different in that they started off by saying “fuck you” to anyone, and then got obscenely rich by doing that.
Heh well that was relatively popular. The other two are kind of reviled or unknown? Which was intended as a tongue in cheek way of stating that if they didn’t make any more money from this day forward they’d still be just fine lol.
I like to think they’d be able to get an Oscar, if they really wanted to. Their style just doesn’t mesh with the Academy’s taste, and I don’t think they want to produce something that’s ‘not them’.
Maybe they could pull off a world war 2 drama with Mr. Hanky. I don’t think he’d have that high-pitched voice in the movie. He could play some scruffy veteran who learns about the darkness of himself and humankind, with ‘Feeling Good on a Wednesday’ levels of frisson. The funniest parts of the movie shouldn’t be any more edgier than the sharpest parts of Benigni’s Life is Beautiful. The poop will be drawn by the AI engine they created. Every character would be someone from South Park (real people though, so casting might get tough), and they would more or less be their own character in that situation, but not played out for laughs.
I guess the AI Mr Hanky might be a bit too much, but I think they could pull something off that is a stand-alone movie that pays fan service all the way. I’m not saying it’s easy to win an Oscar, but Ricky Gervais made Kate Winslet predict she is getting one herself.
Yeah, they signed a deal for $2b guaranteed (as in, even if the show got cancelled tomorrow, they’d still get paid in full) and probably with some great if not total protections against censorship.
It’s the kind of deal that no sane TV exec would agree to (especially with the likes of Parker & Stone), but I guess the execs just wanted the show THAT much.
And they’re taking great advantage of those loose if even existent reins! ✊🏻😄
They must have some serious fuck you money.
Just about a year ago, ‘South Park’ creators reach $1.5-billion streaming deal with Paramount.
So yeah, that’s fuck you levels of money.

Not just subscriptions, Paramount will also get revenue from youtube for clips, and people share south park clips a lot.
I’m just surprised South Park generates that much money to be worth it. It’s Microsoft buying Minecraft kinds of money.
That’s even crazier, Minecraft was just one problematic programmer.
Notch wasn’t even in the team anymore after he sold out to Microsoft so it wasn’t really that much of a big deal
Nobody needs to subscribe to paramount
Paramount is gonna bring about their own reckoning, I swear
They’re playing both sides and making money from everyone.
It’s like Elvis’s manager selling both I love Elvis and I hate Elvis buttons.

At this point they could absolutely live off the residuals from Baseketball or Orgasmo and still be just fine with what they’ve got in the bank.
Don’t forget about The Book of Mormon rights as well.
Both Matt & Trey are only one Oscar away from pulling off an EGOT.

They made Book of Mormon with Robert Lopez who has two EGOTs
Live off? The residuals?
Last report I saw, they were each worth like $600m.

This has been their thing for decades now!
I don’t really like South Park but I have always respected their level of “fuck you.” As an example, they went to the Oscars on acid in 2000.
You don’t have to have money to say fuck you, just an appropriate level of contempt.
I think they’d be doing this anyway.
No, but having enough money to avoid consequences certainly helps.
That’s not all of their shenanigans at those Oscars: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSxHnsddg20
They also made fun of Phil Collins in several episodes after that (Trey lost the Oscar to him).
about 1.5bn worth of it.
Trey and Matt each have at least a billion in wealth, so yes.
Good place to put a reminder that anyone who approaches a billion in wealth without having given 99% of it to charity is a sociopath.
