  • I have ADHD and rarely remember the details of a meal. Maybe never.

But I do remember if I enjoyed it, so while I end up sounding like your dad it it is coming from a place of honesty when I say I enjoy something without being able to articulate exactly why or what flavors were in it. I’m also fine eating meh food for sustenance because the experience of eating it won’t even be remembered 30 minutes later, but won’t praise it.

I can’t sing when I sing alone either, but nobody has to suffer!

Now when I say can’t sing that is referring to tumbling over lyrics my mind knows but my mouth can’t match because of a delay related to ADHD. So when I flub lyrics and nobody hears it doesn’t matter. Played instruments from grade school to college perfectly fine, it isn’f pitch or anything, just the words.

My mother in law is tone deaf and doesn’t know the words either so anything hearing her ‘sing’ is painful. Luckily she doesn’t try often since we share a house to support her.

  • It does if you know it is referencing a hot rod.

The lyric is a reference to the 1932 V8-powered Ford automobile, which enthusiasts dubbed the “deuce coupe” (the “deuce” coming from the 2 in 1932, the first year the V8 was available). Springsteen was fond of classic hot rods in his youth, hence the line “revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night”. As the line is a famous example of a mondegreen because it is frequently misheard as “wrapped up like a douche”, Springsteen has joked about confusion over the lyrics, claiming that it was not until Manfred Mann rewrote the song to be about a feminine hygiene product that it became popular.
