I genuinely believed that AI this capable would be available in 2010 from 1990,
as sci-fi movies were showing flying cars, skyscraper cities and space travel.
Things slowed down a lot in the 2000s and got weird.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you think people misunderstand what socialist democracies look like?
19·28 days agoSocialist democracies look like capitalist democracies that fear socialist revolutions.
Even the US was one from 1930 until around 1980.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Am I the only one that believe the US has to go through some sort of painful transition/civil war/revolution to fix it? Is reforms from Democrats enough?
2·28 days agoThe US has to go through the process of fascism only to be conquered or overthrown by socialists, something that didn’t happen during the Interbellum or world war II.
Last time they went social democratic to preserve capitalism as US socialists were already drawing their pitchforks.
This time around however, the capitalists want to hold onto power even as their capitalist society is on the brink of collapsing. This time, like last time in Nazi Germany, the US merchants refuse to take any concessions during a crisis, so fascism it has already chosen.
This means the US is already going through a painful transition as fascism is known to be a unstable and (self-)destructive form of governance. But what is fascism? I have my own take on it and on socialism by the way…

Here you see a table I made that lists all the standard socio-economic forms of governance.
All standard have three sets of people called estates.
The First estate sets the rules, second estate sets the direction of society and the third estate keeps the gears of society running.
This differs I think from the usual socialist picture (correct if I’m wrong) where Marx had in mind that all estates would become one.
It also differs I think from what capitalists think of themselves, because merchants are not mentioned anywhere in the constitution, are not in the government or anywhere in the trias politica and yet they get first row seats in inaugerations and VIP invitations during delegations. To me, fascism is capitalism, but with a ruling class so powerful that the legitimizer (if that’s a word, I make up words) class has become insignificant and with the first estate gone, the ruling class reigns with impunity.
It will collapse and when it does, we will enter a world with a majority of socialist states very soon.
If not, the world will go straight to communism.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's the latest *capitalist accusation* of socialism you realized is a confession?
1·1 month agoThey could argue that those are just “Anglo style bread lines”,
where the conservatives are starving its citizens by default
instead of their government demanding farm produce
from large farm owners being handed over to them to feed the poor
and the large farm owners refusing to do so and create a standoff,
while keeping all the food to themselves.

6·1 month agoNo, there would be less conflict in the world if we were to cure people from psychopathy, sociopathy, narcissism, racism and other ails that lead to destructive selfishness.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How likely is it that there's an animal on earth that's smarter than human beings in key areas?
1·1 month agoWhat makes you think that they are not smarter than humans?
We haven’t been able to even communicate with Orca’s, so we can’t tell if they’d perform better on a math quiz.
We do know that they have more neurons in their cerebrum than humans, which would potentially make them smarter.
We know they have language, we know that they can pass on knowledge, we know that they communicate to each other to discuss hunting strategies, we know that they give names to each other, we know that some Orca’s have learned to communicate with other dolphin species, we know that they understand the concept of literally pointing out things, so they’re at least smarter than chimps.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How likely is it that there's an animal on earth that's smarter than human beings in key areas?
3·1 month agoI’d say there’s around 50% that either multiple large dolphin species, or more likely, just one dolphin species, being truly smarter than us and that’s the Orca. Orca’s are the only known species known to have more cerebrum neurons than human beings. They just don’t have any fingers, let alone opposable thumbs, and live in the ocean.
There is a possibility however that Orca’s are still less smart than the average human for they could be using much of their brains to manage sleep as they can’t fall asleep like humans do or they’d drown. If we were be able to communicate with them, I would imagine them arguing for humans to turn their society into a more permanent matriarchy instead of the current human feminist ideal, through genetic engineering, specifically making human females a little bit taller, while arguing that the human males are fine in length, but should prefer giant women like a Greg Universe. And for the average desired human female length, seven or eight meters tall should be enough.
Also, chimps are smarter than humans in one key area, which is short-term-memory.
They can easily beat you in a game of memory without fail.

5·1 month agoIf HiddenLayer is not saying that, then I will.
Bottlenoses, I’ve read somewhere, are as smart as 7-year olds.
Orcas are either the only one or one of the few species of dolphin with a larger amount of cerebrum neurons than us, so they should be smarter.I’m not sure if that counts for the males though, because females are bigger and it’s a matriarchal society.

Copying your files from a device to a computer finally returned to normalcy again. The 2020s has AI and HBM.
We also have solar replacing fossil fuels.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•When do we start saying the 00s, the 10s, 20s and 30s?
2·2 months agoMass internet adoption took a full decade.
The 1990s had better graphics almost every year.
One year you were playing single-color blocks with bleeps and bloops
and the next year you’re suddenly looking at controlling real looking people with sound and music. You just didn’t think it was special because you were growing up with it.
It wasn’t special because adoption happened painfully slow.
HD home media in the form of Blu-Ray
Blu-Ray was just another fancier DVD, which was another CD.
It wasn’t a completely new looking device like SD cards, USB sticks or floppy disks.
