This is one of Swedens national dishes, and I’m both surprised and disappointed no one seems to have mentioned that yet and that it isn’t among the top comments. It’s called a “Hel special” (whole special) and it’s literally just this with balls of mashed potatoes and other toppings. Here are some photos:

The most classic is with the chocolate milk drink “Pucko” (slang word for idiot):

    Giving credit is cool.

The screenshot of a tweet OP posted, but without the author's name cropped out. Tweet by Joe Dator @JoeDator. Text: "I can get a double cheeseburger so why can't I get a double hotdog? I have developed a bun that can accomodate two frankfurters at once. Higher meat to breadd ratio, more surface area for mustard and relish. The world is ready. The time has come." An illustrated diagram depicting an extra-wide hot dog bun holding two frankfurters side-by-side accompanies the tweet.

Relishes aren’t really a thing in Germany, so, traditionally you only put mustard on a Bratwurstbrötchen. However, the sausage itself already contains herbs and spices, like a copious amount of marjoram, some pepper, mace, allspice, and sometimes wild garlic, caraway, or ginger.

Pardon my Spanish but how do you call that in German? I know english has no word for “stuff between normal breads”, that’s not a sandwich. In Spain we call it “bocata”. Do you have a distinct word to differentiate from a sandwich?

It’s a pet peeve of mine, alongside calling everything “salami”.

In English they are called Sub from “submarine sandwich”, based on traditional Italian style sandwiches that are the same as Bocatas. That is also where Subway restaurants get their name.

But yes, the issue is that nor in Germany nor England have the “normal” bread, which they call Baguette.

The closest thing I would say for Germans is a Brötchen, which in Spanish would be like a panecillo. What you are seeing in the picture is a Bratwurst Brötchen

Use a taller bun. I also am on team under-over. While the double barrel approach is innovative, it sacrifices on handling. Harder to properly grasp. An under-over config allows tall bun sides that can support a tactical grip with one or both hands without getting saucy fingers.

Something about physics or geometry. Because theyre cylindrical when you grip the bun sideways you get 2 saucy weiners slapping you in the face.
