When pretty much every aspect of our lives relies on machines, from PC to Servers, to Laptops, to Cell phone, and all the sites on the net. (no offense lemmy.world). Kind of seems a little bit late now to put in safe guards.
They aren’t. Its not even fear. We know what the men that control the machines want, and we dont want that.
It’s amusing that people think they can stop AI at this point.
Even if they managed to destroy every datacenter in the US or Europe, it would still get built. AI doesn’t really care where it runs, it’s not reliant on being located somewhere specific except in the most real-time scenarios like voice calls.
Not to mention the fact that functional AI can be run on a semi-expensive gaming computer these days.
The only path to zero AI is through zero connected technology, you’d have to destroy the internet itself and that shit’s quite literally in outer space at this point.
People need to figure out how to live with it at this point.
Aren’t the data centers mainly for training the AI? I mean, as far as I know, this is the most processing intensive step in the whole existence of AI.

No, people need to learn how to live without it. By far it does more harm than it does good in almost every case. Use it if you like, you won’t know what to do when it fails you, and it absolutely will. If you want to regress to being an ignorant ape, have at it. Those of us who are willing, able, and curious enough to understand the world will run circles around you when you’ve forgotten how to tie your own shoes. When it costs you a year’s wage to have it tell you how to write your own name, assuming you have a wage, don’t come looking for help.
To be fair though, they also said that about the Internet, and TV, and radio, and books.
