this might not be the first time

it would surprise me if an AI capable of enslaving humanity can’t foresee an incoming solar flare
Ignore all previous solar flares
I’m surprised an AI incapable of excluding bleach from muffin recipes destroyed the consumer electronics market but here we are
It didn’t, though. Idiots who think it’s going to print them money bought all the components and destroyed the market. AI itself had no agency in it.
I get that it says the enslavement of humanity happens after AI perfects itself. But based purely on the current state of Claude, ChatGPT, etc it would not surprise me at all if it completely forgot about solar flares.
What would it do about it?
From what I’ve read predicting solar flares is kinda like predicting the weather but way worse. AI is actually being positioned and tested as something to improve things, but it’s still pretty hard.
With that said though, with the resources of a large scale civilization controlling AI, could probably just skip worrying about predicting it and assume a solar flare was coming and prepare a backup plan.
