Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What’s a “life hack” that actually made your life worse?English
24·18 days agoOnce my avocados weren’t ripe enough for a recipe I wanted to make on the day I was having guests over. I searched for tips to ripen or soften them more quickly. One of these tips was to wrap them in foil and bake them in the oven (the tip specifically said it would help with the texture and not the taste). Well, it took way longer than the tip said it would for the avocados to soften and they tasted like hot shit. It would have been better to just save them for another day.
Rest in piss 🪦🙏

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•‘I just couldn’t do that drive any more’: Woman left job due to three-hour commute on N7English
23·1 month agoThe article says the commute took so long because of traffic and congestion on the roads, so the distance itself might not be that far. It’s an unreasonably long commute either way though.
I could maybe understand accepting a job that far away as a temporary solution, like if you are eventually planning to relocate to that area and need to save up first, or trying to break into an industry with limited local opportunities until you get a bit of experience and find something closer.
WITHDRAW CONSENT (projectile vomits)

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Does anyone else identify with a culture due to upbringing that doesn't show up significantly on an ancestry test?English
1·1 month agoIt does come off as insecure when someone makes a culture they have little connection to a large part of their identity rather than just showing an interest in it, but most of the time it’s harmless and not worth making a big deal over. I would loosely define being part of a culture as fitting in with other members of it: ability to express yourself in the native language and understanding its nuances, familiarity with customs and mentality, not feeling out of place when around natives/locals regardless of your ethnicity or ancestry.
Only if I’m already in the shower to wash myself lol.
According to my beer-drinking friends, several companies have not only discovered the precise point where people will fold, but successfully marketed it too.

What are his interests? I can make a few suggestions based on them. There is a search bar where he can filter for communities containing keywords he looks for. I also suggest browsing by All, subscribing to communities that interest him, and blocking the communities and users (sometimes it’s a handful of users sharing unwanted content around multiple communities) he doesn’t want to see.
