However, the obsession with bi-pedal robots is creepy and weird.

I watched someone on YouTube talking about it but can’t remember the channel.

Basically, there is no single task for which bipedal is the best format, it’s only suitable for the range of tasks humans can perform. However, we just don’t have the tech to make that format viable. As in, they can’t do the dishes or clean the bathroom or take out the trash.

Demonstrations of bots doing those things are in tightly controlled environments with loads of programmed parameters.

Its appealing because everyone wants a humanoid to order around, but that’s about it.

I don’t mind at all if people think I’m old, I kind of am.

Thing is, fancy new containerised packages have really changed the dynamic here.

It’s just soap and when you use it you feel soapy and then you rinse it off and you feel like you’ve used soap.

In any sane set up, if the user fails to navigate the menu n times you get dumped to an operator. 0 or * or # aren’t special hacks, you just need invalid navigation.

I imagine what you have noticed is that increasingly there just isn’t an operator to talk to, or at least the org you’re calling really doesnt want to talk to you, so this kind of navigation failure just dumps you back to the start or something.

Weirdly I was sure I could hear someone typing. I mean it would be trivial to set things up so the victim couldn’t hear that.

Regardless, it just didn’t sound like a human. I mean it was good but it was definitely in the uncanny valley.

Weirdly, it was obviously intended for victims to think it was human, but then at the end it said “I’m just going to transfer you to a human operator now”, and hung up.

I usually just press star or hash on the number pad a bunch of times

If that’s FOMO then pretty much every decision could be considered FOMO. I decided to put my shoes on this morning because I was worried everyone else wearing shoes would enjoy the advantages there-of and I would miss out.

IDK how much parents “modelling” things really helps.

My parents fell for every scheme they encountered their entire lives.

Watching them taught me to be very critical of that kind of thing. I guess they did model what not to do.

No, I think with NFTs people were just looking at the bitcoin train they had missed out on, and thought NFTs would be the next big crypto thing.

Mostly they thought it was just the next big thing.

I think this unique. Not really FOMO and certainly not investing.

I think you can kind of fork this path:

• blame parents
• realise they did what they thought was best
• still be messed up
• wallow in misery continually making the same mistakes every day
• accept your mediocrity

That’s kind of the opposite of what I’ve said.

I said there’s an interface with the public. A public persona and a private life.

Of course they’re entitled to privacy, because as I said anything else is harassment.

I also did not say that actors are motivated by fame.

What I am saying, is that if you want to be a well paid actor or actress you need fans. Fans need something more than seeing you on the big screen.

How would one appropriately “care about a celebrity on a human level” ?

If I think about the ways I think and behave towards people I care about, those things probably aren’t appropriate or possible to express towards a celebrity.

Yes there are cases in which fans behavior has been more like harassment, like Britney Spears.

Yes there are examples where fandom itself is toxic like the way the UK treats it’s royal family generally.

However, for a celebrity like this how would one care about her in that way and would she actually want that.

If a tv or movie star wants to be adored and desired (for film roles), then they can’t simultaneously want to be left alone.

… as will the American people.
