  • Irish seafood chowder with soda bread, although it’s not really a sandwich.

French onion soup and a croque madame or croque monsieur. Not usually eaten together but both are amazing.

Not going to argue with all the vietnames posts. Banh Mi and Pho are excellent.

The American staple of cream of tomato with a grilled cheese works as a great pairing.

If dumplings count as a sandwich then Chinese noodle dumpling soups are also excellent.

  • There is a fee for crypto transaction processing. The fee is the same irrespective of dollar value, so for small transactions, like buying a game, it is more than a cc middleman fee.

Eventually, I think k this is where crypto can work. Something like the digital euro where the transactions are processed by a trusted entity, the European central bank, rather than your local bank through the visa or MasterCard system. If those fees can be low or eliminated, visa and MasterCard are dead.

  • I get your point. I’m not op, but it makes the task easier. It doesn’t eliminate it is their point. I get yours. That the manual sink washing is more of a chore and also more time sensitive. I too would like to never have to empty the dishwasher, which often has a whole days stuff, not just one meal. For families, this can be a bunch of stuff and neverending.

  • Exactly, especially when the brexit side won by using misinformation and discrediting experts (without any facts, of course). Now people can see through their lies with their own experience.

They can’t claim the money goes the the NHS. The NHS is less funded now. They can’t claim Britain is stronger alone. They early aren’t. They can’t pretend they will make better deals elsewhere. That didn’t pan out and America is not a reliable ally. Barely an ally at this point. They can’t complain about eu decided standards, as they have now discovered that they still need to comply. They can’t complain about immigration as that didn’t stop, by necessity, it just shifted to different nationalities, usually with less recognised training and skills.

  • Ireland drives on the left also and is an eu member. Why should Britain rejoining, which messed is up first time round lead to more annoying changes for us when they rejoin. Were both islands seperate from the continent, so it shouldn’t affect things to keep the status quo.

If it has to be done, we should at least phase it in. Perhaps have professional drivers like taxis or trucks switch first and then cars next and learner drivers last. Should ease the transition.

In all seriousness, I can see a future where we move to self driving cars and they don’t have a preferred side for the wheel or controls, so at one point it would make sense to change everything over to be consistent. However, at that point, it would not make sense to have roads being used in a system designed for human use. The roads should just be used as efficiently as possible, which might mean tidal lanes etc or abandoning lanes altogether and cars just.using the space that their size needs.

  • Yes, I understood your point. However, someone who has never seen a UK plug, or wasn’t aware of the fuse would not. That’s why I made it explicit. The main purpose may be to protect the wiring but my understanding is that the fuse does also protect the appliance, but yes, they should also have an internal fuse.

Are you saying the plug fuse offers no protection as they are already safer? I thought they help protect in case of a power surge or crossed wire. However it’s a long time since I looked at UK power supplies, lol (actually Ireland, but it’s the same, although I’m sure some regulations are different).

  • Your implication in how you wrote was that the appliances are at risk. However the built in fuses in the plugs should mitigate that

One thing about the old standards is that, as you said previously, it might trip more with less efficient devices, however it was also a case that it wasn’t trip switches, but fuse boxes with physical fuses. So it wasn’t just a hassle, they needed replacement at expense, and a dependency on adequate stock.

Those days are gone, so yes, modern standards should be updated.

  • When we were on holiday in Malaysia as kids, we ordered room service one evening. My brother was a picky eater so we asked for a plain cheese pizza, expecting like a margherita style.

Instead it was pizza base with just some sad grated cheese melted on top. Didn’t taste great but just thinking about it makes me laugh. We waited about 40 minutes for that disappointment.
