  • What’s been keeping them in office the last couple decades was a corrupt DNC that would blackball individuals/companies that worked to challenge incumbents, even going so far to bankrupt whole state parties to punish reps who didn’t toe the party line

That’s over, it’s been over. Current DNC has been dumping that money that was hoarded back to state parties, so they can’t use it as a club later.

And Martin ran Minnesota for a decade, he’s never endorsed a candidate before the primary, never put fingers on the scales, and the result was the state going from purple to progressive insanely quickly.

Some state parties are still shitty, but these coming elections are the best chance we’ve had since the 90s to get new blood in.

No matter what happens, we need to get people to vote in upcoming Dem primaries

  • I mean, why do (some) Americans think that every country uses US Dollars?

Post WW2 the US economy was the only one that hadn’t been bombed to absolute shit…

So the US dollar was worth more than any other currency. Exchange rates fluctuated constantly, but US was always worth it. So US travellers could “haggle” in US currency, and even if it wasn’t enough at the moment, it might be too much tomorrow.

The assumption in areas with US travelers, was shop owners all kept a stash of US currency to exchange when it was highest.

So you got some elderly travelers who think the world is still like when they were teenagers, and some younger travellers going off decades old information.

For the host country, it’s a steady stream. But very few Americans cross either ocean, which is why it’s often people on their very first trip who have no idea what’s happening. They learn as soon as someone actually explains it, but everyone is so tired of the steady stream they don’t keep explaining.

It’s the exact same thing with Chinese tourists going to America or Western Europe.

The few who do it regularly, quickly learn to blend in, it’s just a constant stream of people who just showed up and have no idea what the actual cultural norms are due to language barrier

  • I saw the picture and didn’t think about it.

But they’re really just doing skits to kick off press conferences now…

The publicly unscheduled but clearly staged press event played out just after noon as the press pool was ushered to the front door of the Oval Office to watch the president of the United States grin and receive two large bags of McDonalds from a delivery driver who then turned to reporters and praised the GOP’s move to end taxes on tipped wages in 2025.

“McDonalds!” the red-clad woman said in a tone clearly only audible to reporters outside the Oval as she rapped quickly on the door. Trump, a second later, opens the door: “Oh, nice to see you!”

“Nice to meet you,” the woman replied. The two began a banter about how the “No Tax On Tips” policy Trump championed during the 2024 election was now helping her as part of the “One Big, Beautiful Bill” passed into law last year.

They put more planning into this then the Iran war

  • Why would you go in there?

Are these people you know who legitimately think you’d be a good fit?

I had assumed you knew them and they would help you. But from this comment it seems you may not actually know them.

They’re 100% not going to take you into any sort of back office and sit down to help you while on the clock regardless.

But if you actually know them and they’re actually saying you’d be good at it and should apply, then asking if they can take a look at your resume and give you some advice is a pretty normal ask for friends.

If you don’t know them, then Google what kind of resume the Post Office wants yourself.

  • Canned food has sell/us-by dates, because everything needs one…

Acidic food can get weird tasting, but you’re better off ignoring the date and caring about structure integrity of the can.

It’s not about if it ruptured, if it was canned correctly or not. If there’s any flex whatsoever in the can, don’t risk. Even if it’s on the grocery store shelf and a year from expiration.

So you can use whatever beans you want, but don’t feel like you “have” to use the can, they’ll last.

  • Preparing for worst case scenario is literally the only reason humans managed to make it thru 17 different ice ages chief…

In times of plenty people who will take any risk do well, but winter always comes and those dumb fucks get killed off.

    It’s human variation.

The problem is we’re letting people incapable of evaluating risk drive a globally connected society.

Next time shit gets bad, there’s a real chance instead of a kingdom dissolving, virtually every living human dies, despite how personally risk averse they are.

The problem is ultra capitalists being in charge of everything, not just that they exist on a fringe

  • Yep.

If capitalism is calling the shots, then no one plans more than a fiscal quarter ahead of time.

You can’t compete against someone that just ignores all risks, because if nothing goes wrong they put you out of business.

And by the time something goes wrong, they have enough wealth and connections to get bailed out by governments.

Because of that, every society that places capitalism above all else, will eventually implode. One day there just won’t be anything to bail them out with.

It make sense for the oligarchs to keep making bets they can’t lose, but it means everyone else is forced to take bets we cant win.
