It’s a reasonably priced gaming pc designed for couch use and pre loaded with a couch friendly os. As someone who prefers to game from her couch I can totally see myself weighing it if I was in a position to not miss the money and to take advantage of it. Especially if I think of when I did my last major pc upgrade.

Lol I was allowed to be anything I wanted when I grew up, and if I picked a type of engineering my family would even consider still speaking to me
That’s fair, but I think it’s vital to frame it internally as you suspecting that there are deeper emotions at play here. At the end of the day the person in question is the ultimate authority on their emotions. A lot of so called empaths see all the deeper emotions that they want to see and more or less ignore what they don’t want or expect to see. Furthermore you’re likely rife with false positives.
Like I’m not discounting that people can observe deeper emotions, a good therapist is able to notice them and lead you to them. But people with hypervigilance often are the ones claiming that they’re “empaths” (ie see and instinctively feel other people’s emotions) and these traits can correlate with the behavior described above.
I’m saddened and grateful I’m not the only one here who associates the term with abusers.
There’s reading emotions and then there’s claiming you entirely feel other people’s emotions and are so confident in it that you insist the other person is lying about their feelings.
I associate it deeply with BPD style emotional abuse. Everyone who’s done that form of abuse to me has called themselves an empath. But inevitably, nope, it’s just hypervigilance and projection and don’t I dare correct them on how I’m feeling.
Incidentally I have a cptsd response where I often mask discomfort and fear so it’s especially things like me saying “no” and “I don’t want that” that get disbelieved by these “empaths”
When the government subsidizes the shit out of the alternatives, yes. But also investing in research for better things means you get better things faster.
Norman Rockwell. He did paintings of Americana. This one is about the civic duty to speak up or something
She always reminded us of a vulcan
Does distinguishing country actually matter here?
Even west virginnie and missisippah got engineers.
It’s just another form of pinching pennies so hard the dollars slip through
I look amazing in glasses, but not so good I’ll put up with not having peripheral vision
Watching that clip he looks sick

I also forgot about mate because I’m a bad American and forgot about my continent’s native stimulants. Tobacco was common but not in the way it was in the 20th century. It was more tasted than inhaled.
But yeah I did a quick search and it looked like coca wasn’t widely traded with the anglosphere until the 19th century
The stimulants available to a north American of his time were wildly popular at the time in the british colonies and it’s difficult to imagine him not partaking in either of them. Thst said, they were coffee and tea, both of which remain legal here to this day, and we even scrapped the extra tax on tea.
Franklin died in 1790. Cocaine was first isolated in 1859 and it looks like coca wasn’t really available in the global north until around that time. That said, upon the arrival of cocaine, the USA put that shit in everything. We loved the stuff
If you look at OP’s history they’re something who clearly has had a tumultuous experience as an American who immigrated from China. Their relationship with their country of birth, their family, and their experiences with racialization and their heritage are something they’re clearly struggling with and processing. Calling them racist isn’t constructive to them or the community.
