For a fast waltz, for example, it’s very likely that the conductor will only signal the “downbeat” (ictus) and be much more… subjective withe the rest of the motion, and allow some freedom instead of keeping some robotic tempo that could sound forced and boring, it’s really a very dynamic form of communication. If there’s some big crescendo for example, maybe he won’t even signal the tempo and instead use both hands to control intensely, the energy, of that segment, and prepare a monstrous downbeat when it reaches the climax.

I know little about conducting, but it’s fascinating.

I think that the way to settle a dispute like this isn’t by shouting over the cop. Is it satisfying? I’m sure. Good idea? Never.

It’s on them to prove the speeding happened, and if they can’t back it up in court, it’s a quick dismiss.

Slack and Teams are tiny, I think, when compared to other cloud services - my company could easily migrate from slack to something else (some pain involved, but very doable). Even a sudden disconnect, there’s still email and other tools to get everything on the same page.

The barrier to entry is prohibitive. So many people are living paycheck to paycheck, a down payment on a home within walking/cycling distance of their workplace is a pipedream.

Even if they could, with how large cities are, it’s unlikely it’ll be close to where they work.

The solution is always mass transit: even a simple bus, as long as it’s comfortable, reasonably fast and timely will do wonders. Trains and subway, even better.

American restaurants are so fucked up it’s unbelievable.

In Europe, restaurants are mandated by law to show final price on menus - including all taxes. Zero math: if I order a €9 plate, that’s exactly what I’m expected to pay, period. I might let them keep the change from a €10 note if they were particularly friendly or the food was better than expected.

Edit: that “large parties fee” is particularly stupid. If I’m making reservations for a larger group, I’ll probably discuss a menu with them ahead of time. This way they get to prepare ahead of time, and I get a cheaper price.

Also why not go in as 4 + 3 instead of 7, and avoid the fee altogether?
