Which sects? Some of them are very combined. Some of them are not. The puritans refused to celebrate Christmas because of the paganism influences.

Europe@feddit.org•French ship passes Strait of Hormuz in sign Iran may not view France as hostile
9·4 days agoOr iran doesn’t want to risk France entering this fight too. France isn’t stupid, and Iran has plenty of smart people able to figure out that they can’t afford another power entering in the war.
That is illegal, and the rail roads have had enough problems that they monitor for it. When they detect you the train will stop with the car you are in at the crossing the sherif is waiting at.
good luck.
Coach is plenty good seats. A sleeper would be nice but that is luxury class, coach seats are fine for sleeping in. That gets the price cheaper than flying in most cases.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How does one who doesn’t have a ‘home’ choose their team?
3·6 days agoGeography is your best answer. If you pick a time that plays half their games close to you that means you can go watch games in person once in a while. It means you and strangers on the street likely have in common seeing the same games and so can talk about them. Nothing wrong with a distance team, but you miss out the major advantages of a spectator sport by not choosing the local team.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why don;t most of us Americans only need like one foreign language to pass high school? Why not make it mandatory for like 3 or 4 languages?Would that not give us the upper hand when traveling?
7·9 days agoWhen I was in Germany nobody tried to talk Spanish to me. When I was in sweden they didn’t either. nor did they in India. If you are to be well traveled you quickly learn to find English speakes everywhere - because that is the language of travel it is enough. A second language is only useful if you limit your travels to the area they speak it.
many kids in foreign countries take years of english but they can’t speak is. Those who thy speak it well and they stick in groups thus not knowing how bad the rest of the class really is.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Have restaurants increased their prices lately due to the war?
3·12 days agoA 20% jump in something that is only 5% of costs is not a 5% jump. It will hurt but not kill most.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Have restaurants increased their prices lately due to the war?
2·12 days agoFuel is a tiny cost of restaurant meals. It isn’t zero, but it is much less than 5% of the costs. So even if prices are going up, it is easy to hide them in the profit margin in the short term. Long term of course it affects more and more things indirectly and eventually something will give and raise prices forcing something else to give.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why does Finland have fewer homeless people on the street than the United States?
2·15 days agoWoah - there was good reason to get rid of those ‘mental hospitals’. There were terriballp abusive. On the streets was more human for most.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why does Finland have fewer homeless people on the street than the United States?
3·15 days agoThe us is trying. We had shelters for many years and the abuse in them was far worse than anything on the streets. Sure a few freeze to death on the streets which isn’t good, but don’t forget how much worse it was / can be.
don’t let that be an excuse for not doing better either but don’t lose sight of the possibility for worse.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•My brother has or had now a drinking problem. Now he is asking for the worst tasting crap that he can take a cap full like an airplance bottle so his body whenever he thinks about it will remember
3·15 days agoThat is entirely possible however plenty have found it doesn’t work. I know a girl who drank hand sanitizer because she ‘needed’ her alcohol so much (it was not the kind that had alcohol in it, she just barely realized that and call 911 in time before she passed out, somehow they saved her life)

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do wealthy people know if the people they meet are wealthy or not?
2·16 days agoThey don’t. they are people jus like anyone else. They hang out with people who are genuine and figure out who isn’t fast. They have limited numbers of people they want as friends just like the rest of us (you run out of time to spend with them if there are too many).
The genuine is why they hang out with only rich. A few are not and they seek out the rich and famious, so as protection the rich hide. too many people make real death (rape, kidnapping…) threats to risk being easy to find.
but in the end they are humans just like the rest of us seeking genuine friendship.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is giving only formula long term "healthy" for a baby?
5·16 days agoThere are differences in favor of breastfeeding. You can look them up if you care to. However encouraging breastfeeding has killed babies when mothers tried to force it despite the below making it impossible. Thus fed is best applies even though breast feeding is better - the difference is stastically there but not that much.
However breastfeeding is hard! Most don’t appreciate how hard it is in the modern world. It was 'designed for a world where mom was never more than a few steps from babp. Women’s work is historically (acoup.blog has a whole series on this) defined as the work mom can do while breastfeeding and thus mens work is anything that can’t.
modern offices don’t allow for mom to take the baby to work every day. Many have private spaces to pump which can work, but not well. Problem is you need to manage supply which is hard to do correctly. also when mom gets home they want to switch to breastfeeding but baby is used to the bottle and doesn’t suck hard enough to get fed. It is too easy to give up on the whole thing because it is so hard.
on top of that formula makers are sending free formula samples those first hard months - use those a just a couple times in a row and mom dries up forever. (Or until next baby)
finally not all mothers have nutrious milk, some babies histrically died because mother was porducing ‘water’ not milk. Also some babies are allergic to milk. These are both rare cases overall but they happen.

Europe@feddit.org•‘Please, please, please’: Denmark urges citizens to avoid driving as oil prices spike
1·25 days agoSure, but in return you have your car when you get there. If the destination is a car centric place this saves a pile of money. you also can go where you want, see what you want…
note that I live in the us we get one train per day at 100km/h - the car is faster and cheaper. Is still use the train but it isn’t anything what you are thinking of. At least we can sleep on the train.

Europe@feddit.org•‘Please, please, please’: Denmark urges citizens to avoid driving as oil prices spike
2·26 days agoI’m not against it. However if you need a car when you get there you may as well drive. By contrast if you can not drive near home sometimes you won’t (like if your car breaks), and the better the local system is the more likely you are to use it
though the bad options most of us have is one reason not to use it.
Reserection is tied to passover, which in turn is tied to the spring equinox. Bunnies and many of the other things done then have pagan roots, but the date has a real meaning anyway.
