Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Me watching someone on Lemmy getting cooked for having the same opinion as me:
1·19 days agoA nazi is an ideology that is used as an identity. The ideology is made up of a group of identical opinions.
That is so generic that it applies to every single ideology ever. By this definition, someone who identifies as LGBT is a Nazi.

Apple is a publicly traded company as well, which means they have the same incentives, but they do the exact opposite, having frequently broken backwards compatibility in major ways in order to make massive structural changes, like moving to an entirely different processor architecture not once, not twice, but three times now, and often breaking backwards compatibility in major ways in order to reduce bloat.
This is more likely a cultural issue than a technical one. Basically, both companies practice very different philosophies when it comes to engineering decisions. Of course, a major reason why Apple can do this while Microsoft can’t is the fact that Apple makes their own hardware, while Microsoft doesn’t.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•So say, someone lives in an English speaking country and wanna see a movie in the threaters but they struggle to understand English, how are they supposed to watch it?
4·28 days agoI mean… unless you can find a theater that specifically caters to Chinese audiences, like others suggested, I can’t really think of any other alternatives. I’m sure you can understand that it’s pretty difficult for regular theaters to cater to every foreign audience because the entire screen would be full of subtitles, or they’d have to have 50 different screenings a week, with Chinese being shown at 10am on a Wednesday.

3·28 days agoWait until the movie is out on streaming services (or DVD/BluRay) and then watch it with subtitles at home?

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•An argument for using plastic straws:
1·4 months agoI see. Thanks for the detailed explanation!
Just bought a mate gourd BTW. It’s kinda modernist (comes with a lid) but still has a bombilla, but since there’s no big mate culture in my country, I suppose that’s acceptable (there’s no risk of running into traditionalists here). Hopefully it still beats drinking mate from tea bags, which is what I’ve been doing so far.

1·5 months agoA sippy cup lid would make you to get a lot of yerba on your mouth.
Right, that’s where the French press sieve comes in. It’s a permanent metal filter like this one, which is fine enough to deal with ground coffee, so mate should be no problem, as it’s usually much coarser. A lid with something like this underneath should be able to keep all the mate inside the cup, and also prevent clogging. Combine with an insulated mug that keeps the water hot for more than five minutes, and you shouldn’t have to constantly refill it either.
I understand that traditions are important, but are they important enough to scald or impale yourself over on the freaking bus?
