No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Are there any open source word processors that have AI integration?
7·5 days agoUsing AI to assist in writing can be anything from it fixing your spelling mistakes to the AI writing the entire thing from scratch. Dismissing it as “not your writing” simply because an AI was used is quite ignorant thing to say. It’s a bit more nuanced than that.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why did USAF pilot survival kits have nylons?
21·6 days agoThere’s a popular magazine where I live that has a section for reader submitted “hacks” and it’s kind of infamous for how many of them utilize nylons in some shape or form.
I’m quessing it’s not for any single purpose but rather a light and multifunctional item.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If you're sexually frustrated & can rarely find a mate & decide to live a life of "nofap," what are the effects that buildup of sexual frustration has?
7·11 days agoUsing the term “NoFap” in the title is a bit like putting “AI” in there - it pretty much guarantees zero productive conversation in the comments and instead acts as a bug light for certain people to just chime in with their personal views on that one thing.
I don’t even bother writing a response to the actual question because I don’t want to spend the rest of the day defending views I don’t even hold.
You drive an old car to protect yourself from hackers. I drive an old car because I’m broke. We’re not the same.
If it’s connected to the internet then it can be hacked. Though in the literal meaning of the term virtually anything can be hacked. It just means finding an unconventional way to operate something.
Me as well. Easy choice as no other device came even close to having the features I wanted.
They came up with a system that turns outrage into cash and they’re literally printing money right now.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Could my daughter, who is a lawyer, defend my son’s girlfriend, who killed my cousin’s family in a DUI accident?
5·18 days agoAs long as they weren’t taking part in illegal street racing.
I rarely do. I don’t understand the point of it. I just ate and now you want me to eat more? If anything - we should’ve started with the dessert.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why are people so rude on Reddit compared to the Fediverse?
3·21 days agoI don’t. That’s what makes it even more bizzare. I don’t get what they have to gain from trying to stain an anonymous account.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why are people so rude on Reddit compared to the Fediverse?
2·21 days agoI hope you got squared away ok
Nah, they’re still on it - and considering how much you’ve been discussing AI here too, it’s more than likely you’ve run into them as well.
Being careful with your words helps to some extent, but then there are people like this who don’t really care what you actually say. If they perceive you to be on the wrong side of an issue they care deeply about, they slap this cartoon-villain stereotype on you and treat it as fact. It’s not about what you said - it’s about who they think says those kinds of things. It’s intentional misinterpretation and ad hominems all the way down. No point even trying to engage with their insane troll logic.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why are people so rude on Reddit compared to the Fediverse?
33·21 days agoThat hasn’t really been my experience. Lemmy seems nicer on the surface because most of the userbase is ideologically aligned, so conflict is less likely. But once you make the wrong noises about something, plenty of people show up ready to prove just how mean and horrible they can actually be.
Also, on Reddit I never had anyone follow me around trying to cause reputational damage by spreading false accusations about me.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why is AI so bad at coming up with dialogue?
2·21 days agoLLMs not being AI is one of the most common confidently wrong statements I see spread here as fact pretty much every day.
We’ve had AI systems since 1956.
It simply refers to any system designed to perform a cognitive task that would normally require a human. For an LLM that task is generating natural language. For an Atari chess opponent it’s playing chess. They’re both still AI - narrow AI, but AI nonetheless.
People seem to expect general intelligence from these systems, and when they don’t get it, statements like this pop up. But AGI is not synonymous with AI. It’s also an AI system, yes, but just a subcategory of AI - same as GenAI is. No company claims to have a true AGI system.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•I want to write a comic book about a superhero in his 20s who comes from a very wealthy family but my friend says its stupid. Should I give up?
5·23 days agoI doubt that it was a genuine question. Looking at their post history I’m suspecting that they’re just posting about controversial topics in hopes to start up something.
I turned my attention to the aggression and the aggression went away.
It’s impossible to stay angry at anything for longer than a few seconds unless you keep feeding that anger with the stories you’re telling yourself. You don’t have to keep telling those stories - unless you want to stay angry, of course.
Remember that smart decision you made while angry? Yeah, me neither.
Only you can see those deleted posts - nobody else can.

No idea. I’ve never met her.
