I’d love to hear why people liked this show. I really tried to like it.

Sure. Looking at season 2 I really enjoyed Celebrimbor’s story and being tricked/manipulated by Sauron. I think the Dwarves story with Durin was well told. I think Adar is a tragic villain like character, he’s an Orc so he must be evil, but we get to explore that tragedy.

I also, like everyone, like Gandalf and the halflings, but the story being told reeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaallllllllly stretches it out. Season 1 was bad but we had some fun interactions so I was willing to give them some latitude. Season 2 was just stretching, we could have told that whole story in 1-2 episodes.

The other storylines I really don’t care about. I’m also annoyed by Arondir’s storyline. He was a main character in season 1, and then mostly absent from season 2 and did nothing. Also the Numenor story sucks.

So basically there are a small number of scenes and stories that are really good. A bunch of scenes and stories that are good. And you’re probably right, the majority that is kinda crap.

But the parts that I enjoy are still fun to watch.

If the show is cancelled, no big deal, but I’m happy to watch as long as the fun parts remain.

It’s fine. There’s no good way to tell these stories which won’t piss off purists. The acting and writing is pretty good. There are some interesting set and setting choices but nothing nearly as bad as the Internet seems to think. It’s a difficult narrative to adapt for filelm, and they are doing as well as can be expected.

A lot of the criticism is haters hating IMO. Same with WoT, which started rough, but got pretty good before it got cancelled. People whining on the Internet killed the only shot we’ll get at that for decades.

I am not a purist by any stretch of the imagination. I have only seen the first season and two episodes of the second and holy shit the acting and writing was utter dogshit……

It’s definitely not perfect, and I think its biggest problem is in the pacing. Some storylines drag excruciatingly, especially in the first season.

But this is a problem I see with a lot of streaming shows, where they don’t have quite enough content to fill a season, or where they have less happening in one storyline than another but still want all the climaxes to line up. It’s not unique to this show at all.

I just read, that Amazon greenlit 3 shows created by AI, I thought that’s really stupid, then I found this news and realised that actual biological people took money for this show, Other people decided to continue it, and I realised that artificial intelligence is still better than natural stupidity.
