This news item from a few weeks ago revealed that when users created a “public link” of their Claude chat history, that chat history ended up in Google’s search queries.
Aren’t these urls supposed to be more or less undiscoverable by virtue of the long string of random characters that they contain?
How did Google discover those urls?
Did these people publish the urls somewhere publically themselves?
Or did Google “fish” them out of their gmail inbox or something like that?
Google is an outfit that specializes in stealing data. They probably recovered the URLs from Chrome browsers, or browsing histories, http referrer… Google is everywhere, unavoidable and aggressively collects data on everyone about everything all the time.
Don’t know why people disagree with you so much, but they’re in emails, photos, clouddrives, phones… they’re even the univeral Samsung keyboard now. Nothing you type at all is private any more.
Because traditionally, people who used to say that were labeled crackpots and conspiracy theorists. I know because I’ve been rabidly defending my privacy since 1999 and I’ve been called that for 25 years.
Now most people have finally realized what folks like me have been saying for years has actually happened, and the barrage of crackpot-name-calling has largely stopped. But the reflex is still there, and people who talk like me still carry that stigma.
Either that or people don’t like it when you throw the naked truth in their face when it’s really unsettling, and they hate the messenger rather than confronting the message.
