I think “Roseanne” the TV series is an interesting one, since it’s a “What If” that happened.

The original “Roseanne” aired in the 90s and was an excellent show about a working class American family. It aired for 9 seasons, but the final 9th season was weird because the working class family won the lottery and lost the plot. In the finale it turns out the whole last season was a “What If” of what the main character, Roseanne, wished had happened. Her husband Dan having died.

Then we get a reboot season that ignores the 9th season. But at this point the actress who plays “Roseanne” is publicly a crazy racist and gets the show cancelled.

But! Now Roseanne dies in the series and Dan lives. The show once again tells the story of middle class America and has success as the rebranded “Conners” for 7 seasons.

What if they did a real original season 9? What if they didn’t retcon the 9th season in the finale? What if they didn’t retcon all of season 9? What if Roseanne wasn’t a crazy racist? What if they just cancelled the show?

I think Star Wars: Underworld would have been interesting. Think “The Mandalorian” but young Boba Fett set on Coruscant in 2009. If created and successful Disney likely wouldn’t have purchased Star Wars which would change the sequel trilogy. (George had a very different plan which still might not have worked, but compared to what we got, probably worth seeing.)

What if Thomas Jane had agreed to play Don Draper on Mad Men?

He was offered the role but turned it down because he thought TV was beneath him.

His movie career slowed down and he ended up doing tv shows like Hung and The Expanse, filmed a teaser with Ron Perlman where he tried to get The Punisher going again.

Now John Hamm has a successful movie and prestigious tv career, all from the role Jane turned down. Everytime Jane see’s Hamm in anything he must think “that could’ve been my role”.
